The station is owned by Cumulus Media; it is the local network affiliate for CBS News Radio and carries talk shows from co-owned syndicator Westwood One. The station originally signed on as WSOM on June 25, 1965, and has undergone several format changes over the years, including adult standards, talk radio, and classic country. On May 24, 2021, WRQX rebranded as “The Patriot” and adopted its current conservative talk format.
