It is owned by Curtis Media Group. The station’s programming consists of a variety of hits from the 1970s to the 2000s, with a focus on music that appeals to listeners aged 25-54. It commenced operations in 1949 as WNAO-FM, primarily simulcasting its AM counterpart. The station switched to mainstream rock on January 28, 1998; the WBBB letters were taken from a Burlington, North Carolina, radio station at 920 AM (which was concurrently renamed WPCM). In addition to music, 96.1 BBB also features local news and traffic updates.
