About WSGN

WSGN (98.3 FM) is a United States-based oldies-format radio station licensed to Stewartville, Alabama, that serves East Central Alabama and Birmingham suburbs. It originally began as one of Birmingham’s earliest radio stations, with roots going back to the 1920s; it’s considered the city’s second radio station to go on air. The station is owned and operated by Marble City Media LLC. WSGN is designed to replicate the sound of the original 610 AM, featuring hits from the 1960s, 70s, and early 80s. The call letters WSGN stood for “South’s Greatest Newspaper,” reflecting ownership by The Birmingham News starting in 1934. The station is famous for live broadcasts from a glass-walled booth (The Sky Castle) at Eli’s Drive-In, where teens would gather to watch the DJs.
