About WBGO
WBGO (88.3 FM) is a community-based non-commercial radio station in the United States that features a wide range of programming, including jazz music, news, and public affairs programming. The station started broadcasting in 1979 and was the first public radio station in New Jersey, USA. Its first license was granted on January 26, 1947, and it was originally owned by the Newark Board of Education, with studios in Central High School.
WBGO (88.3 FM) is commonly known as "Jazz 88" because its primary focus is jazz music; in addition, this radio station also airs public affairs programming, locally produced newscasts, traffic reports from Total Traffic during morning and afternoon rush hours, and NPR-produced newscasts and programming.
