KZSC Santa Cruz (88.1 FM) is a non-commercial, educational community radio station based in Santa Cruz, California, United States that provides a platform for independent music, news, and cultural programs. Based on the University of California Santa Cruz campus, this radio station is the audio equivalent of a fiery fondue pot overflowing with music, local talk, and fun from the place known as “Surf City, USA.”
KZSC Santa Cruz broadcasts at 88.1 FM and is licensed to the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC); it serves as a training ground for UCSC students interested in broadcasting, media promotions, music, and journalism, as well as an outlet for many members of the Santa Cruz community. The station was founded in 1967 and has since become an integral part of the local community, providing a platform for independent music, news, and cultural programming. It is also the exclusive radio home of UCSC Banana Slug Sports. The station has over 60 different shows that vary widely in genre, including sports, reggae, indie, folk, electronica, hip-hop, and a wide variety of international music, as well as a number of talk radio and public affairs programs. It also airs public affairs shows, cultural programs, and news content produced by community members and UCSC students.
