About 90.7 The Capstone
90.7 The Capstone, also known as WVUA-FM (90.7 FM), is a student-run radio station at the University of Alabama in the United States. The station strives to provide the university community with the best possible news, public affairs, sports, and entertainment programming to meet its special needs as a diverse academic community. It was chartered in 1981, although student-run stations have existed at UA since 1941.
90.7 The Capstone (WVUA-FM) offers a variety of programs, including news, sports, and music. It was operated as a commercial venture at 570 on the AM dial. Starting in May 2007, the station began a revitalization project to make it "an agent for a collaborative community." Today, this radio station, operating out of College of Communications facilities, transmits a stereo FM signal 24 hours a day to the university community and much of the city of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA. The station's second goal is to provide a vehicle for the basic training and education of university students who have a general interest in the field of broadcasting, as well as those who want to pursue broadcasting as a career. It emphasizes local music that derives directly from the Tuscaloosa community.
