The station was granted its first license on May 31, 1950, with the WNOW-FM call sign. The station changed its call sign to WQXA in 1973. The station was formerly known as Q106 in the 80s and later became a dance station, known as Hot 105.7 in the early 90s. Hot AC changed the format to active rock in May 1995, and the station's name changed to "105.7 The Edge." Later, the format changed to modern rock with a branding change to "105.7 The X." A blend of new and classic rock songs may be heard on the station's active rock programs. Rock music fans of all ages are big followers of the station.
